There are quite a few interesting small communities within an hour or so of Las Vegas. This video takes you to Searchlight, Nevada, and a visit to their small, quaint, but surprisingly information packed museum.
Searchlight is one of those quiet, out of the way towns, that has produced and or hosted some famous persons.
The current "celebrity" of sorts to call Searchlight home, is U.S. Senator Harry Reid. While he's of no real importance to most people, someone who's efforts you have no doubt witnessed, Edith Head, the multi Academy Award winning costume designer, also hailed from Searchlight.
Many visitors to Las Vegas make a side trip to Laughlin, Nevada to try their gambling skills, and since Searchlight is along the way they make a quick stop there.
One of the earliest motion picture "sex symbols" Clara Bow, known as the "it" girl, made her home in Searchlight for many years.
Here's more information and a lot of photos of the scandalous Clara Bow, whose travel trunk, and some of her other possessions are on display in the Searchlight museum.
