Membership in a casino's player's club goes well beyond earning points or credits towards merchandise and passes to restaurants. Being on the club's mailing list, particularly if you've attained "Preferred" status, means you will receive advance notice of casino events, and moat importantly, slot and other tournaments.

So, again, always join, and always use your card to earn maximum points and benefits.

Stay aware of changes to the Player's Club rules. The rules may not change frequently, but when they do it could affect what you get for how you play. Rules changes could also cause you to seek out a different casino, with a set up more favorable to your gambling style.
