Native American events and traditions are an important part of life in Las Vegas. There are several reservations on the outskirts of Las Vegas that are popular destinations for residents and tourists alike.
This video contains demonstrations of the traditional "Jingle" dance and "Circle" dance, both of which have special meaning in Native American lore.
A loose description of the Jingle dance is that it is a dance for healing, while the Circle dance is a dance of unity.
Check this website for more information on Native American dance styles and other Powwow information.
The Moapa tribe operates a small casino, restaurant, gas station, and general store that sells souvenirs, Native American art, fireworks, booze and discount cigarettes.
This facility, which is about 30 miles north of Las Vegas on I15, also plays host to truckers who appreciate the truck stop's easy access and virtually unlimited parking. Powwows are also held at this location throughout the year.
These events are great for kids since the Native Americans are very friendly, and quite willing to pose for pictures and answer questions about their way of life, nature, american history, spiritualism.
Many people report that they depart these Powwows and festivals with renewed spirit, and a feeling of enlightenment and invigoration, which can be helpful to gamblers in Las Vegas.
Try to attend one of these events during your next visit; you'll feel better for it.
