IS IT REALLY OVER FOR ONLINE POKER?

With all the serious problems facing the USA, the congress, which really doesn't know how to do anything, except run for re-election, has again focused on protecting us from ourselves.
Whenever there's a problem facing a political party the, fallback position, after the routine denials of wrongdoing, is to pick an issue that really isn't any of their business, such as the use of steroids by professional athletes.
This time it's the Republicans who have their fannies to the fire, so in order to deflect attention from their own scandals Senator Bill Frist has appealed to the Southern Baptists to support his campaign against online Poker.
This move comes from a guy whose own ethics are under scrutiny. But what better way to take the voters minds off of his, and his political party's problems, than to start appealing to the morality crowd?
This lame excuse that he and his cohorts are "protecting the children" is utter nonsense. In the first place that's the responsibility and obligation of parents. Legitimate forms of entertainment should not be legislated out of existence under the guise of protecting a particular class of individuals.
I should point out that the congress was slick enough not to outline online gambling, they couldn't because it's mostly based out of the country, instead, they outlawed the use of credit cards to fund online gambling.
Now the rest of the world is finally getting a look inside of our "democracy," where a vote in favor of one thing, say school funding, results in a vote for, or against something else that is totally unrelated.
I've always been opposed to this practice of attaching one bill to another; it makes no sense and compromises the process.
Here's a response to the new law from "Absolute Poker".
The question of whether or not online gambling will have an adverse effect on conventional casinos is addressed in the publication "In Business Las Vegas".
I don't gamble online, and as an Independent, a libertarian
actually, I believe that adults should be allowed to make their own minds up about things that are not inherently harmful. Anything can be abused, or overdone, and self control must be practiced. For me it's certain kinds of food that I love, but can only have in moderation. I don't want them outlawed, so I won't be tempted, even if my doctor tells me I should give them up. I'll follow his orders, and feel good about having been able to indulge when I could, and let others for whom they're not a problem stuff themselves.
Should the government outlaw sugar because many people have diabetes?
It's really all about taxes anyway. The government doesn't like seeing Americans win money that can't be taxed.
We'll have to see if the online casino industry finds a way around the no credit cards law. I suppose they could, but it won't be as easy for gamblers.
Here's a link to a beginner's guide to online gambling in case you want to get in on it before it's gone.
