CASINO NEWS
by jim on October 5, 2006

You can't gamble 24/7, well maybe some of you can, but there are other things to do in Las Vegas.
Harrahs casino, actually their entire corporate structure, is in the news every day now, and not just in Las Vegas.
Hard on the heels of Harrahs announcement of their land swap deal with Boyd Gaming, which netted the company the Barbary Coast Casino, comes the news that a huge takeover attempt of Harrahs is underway.
When I say huge, I mean huge along the lines of small foreign governments.
A buyout offer of 15 billion bucks, give or take a few million, the whole shebang, has been made.
The significance of Harrahs' acquisition of the "Barbary Coast" is its location. The casino is situated center Strip and with it Harrahs now has control of The Strip from Harrahs Casino to the Paris Hotel and Casino, quite a stretch of real estate.
Visitors to Las Vegas like to take long walks up and down The Strip, usually on the Eastern or Northbound side, and this means that almost any casino they check out will be a Harrahs property.
Meanwhile, funny girl Rita Rudner, is going to open her new act at Harrahs in a bit over a week, so there's lots happening at Harrahs.
So what does all this mean to the average gambler?
Well, Harrahs is steadily going upscale, but the place is still reasonably priced and a bargain, despite being a Strip casino.
Harrahs will want to keep its casinos in the news, and gamblers can expect even better treatment, and increased comps as a result. I would be on the lookout for special promotions designed to attract gamblers, and keep the bets flowing, so their stock offerings will remain high.
