POKER UPDATE
by jim on August 30, 2006

There's still a lot of "Old Las Vegas" in this constantly evolving town and you owe it to yourself to check it out.
Here and there along The Strip there are still small gambling emporiums, left over from the old days, and they have a charm all their own. But for some real old town flavor you must visit the "downtown" area.
The designation "downtown" always amused me since the location is actually at the north end of The Strip, which in my mind is "uptown." I dunno, maybe I spent too much time under the influence of New York City, where north meant "up."
Anyway, most visitors, especially first timers, like to test their gambling skills in a variety of places, and some visitors prefer the more relaxed atmosphere of a quaint, older casino to the huge, bustling mega-resorts.
The Golden Nugget, is one such place, and for the poker player, there is an opportunity to get into daily tournaments for a modest buy-in.
What's especially nice about The Golden nugget and other "old time" casinos is that while the atmosphere and décor harkens to the past, the gaming equipment and other amenities are high tech, and modern, by anyone's standards.
Check out the Golden Nugget's new poker room and daily poker tournaments.
Good luck!
