COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 9

I was a week early in calling Auburn "mighty." After an inexplicable loss to Arkansas they beat #2 Florida handily. Go figure.
In fact it was a close call for most of the top teams, except Ohio State, but, as a fan of college football for more years than I care to recount, there's always one week per season like this when the top teams get scared straight.
Notre Dame had one of its best weeks this season by staying home and advancing up the Top Ten. UCLA travels east to take on Notre Dame for the first time in 42 years. Look for a high scoring game and a possible good choice for an over/under bet.
Whoulda thunk that Rutgers would be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Nebraska, Oklahoma, LSU, and Wisconsin? Well I for one did. I distinctly recall telling my wife years ago that if Rutgers could recruit more of the home grown Jersey boys they'd be competitive.
Next time you watch a game between a couple of powerhouse college teams check the rosters and see if there isn't at least one guy from Jersey on each team.
Rutgers travels to Pittsburgh for an important conference game for both teams. The Big East Conference, even without Miami, is surprisingly strong. This contest has Pitt as a 6 point favorite. If I were a betting guy I'd have to say that Rutgers looks like a good bet to me. They're on a roll and have had a slightly tougher schedule than Pitt, and after years of rough going the team has something to prove.
Tulsa came through for me last week and I see no reason that at minus 13 at Memphis the team shouldn't cover again.
I don't see any potential surprises among the top teams. Maybe Texas-Nebraska is game to consider but I have to think that Texas will win that one and cover the 6 ½ point spread even though Nebraska is at home and back to their winning ways.
