COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK 15
Filed in archive SPORTS STUFF by jim on December 01, 2006

This is the final week of the regular college football season and there are a number of games worth watching.
It seems that USC, unless they tank against UCLA, will face Ohio State for the National Championship. I know they're ranked #2 and 1 respectively, and there's no doubt that they're both good teams, but I still don't like this set up for determining which team is #1.
I'm in favor of a greatly shortened version of the NCAA college basketball tournament. In my world the top 8 BCS teams would play off against each other resulting in a quarter-final, semi-final, and championship game.
Right now, Boise
State, the only undefeated Division I-A team aside from Ohio State, is 12-0, and ranked #8.Why not give them a shot at Ohio State? I'd have #1 play #8, #2 would play #7, and so forth, in the first round. The next round would have the highest ranked remaining team play the lowest ranked remaining team, and the remaining two teams would play each other.
This is pretty much the same as the Wildcard team set up in the NFL. The highest ranked teams get a break by playing the lowest ranked teams, who in turn have their chance to prove themselves, and possibly end up playing for all the marbles.
Anyway, I could go on forever about this, and why I think it's not being done, but I don't have a vote on it, so I'll move on.
I started the season in pretty good form, and then my hunches took a rather crappy turn, so I don't know if I should even offer an opinion on the possible outcome of any of Saturday's games. That's also why I don't bet anymore.
From a college football viewer's standpoint though there are some games of note that should provide plenty of interest. The game with the highest ranked teams is #8 Arkansas at #4 Florida, the favorite, at minus 3.
#19 Nebraska is at Oklahoma for the Big Twelve Championship game. Oklahoma is ranked all over the place depending on which poll you check. They are as high as #8 and as low as #13, but you can throw out the book when Oklahoma and Nebraska get it on.
This is an old, old, rivalry with lots of pride at stake, and probably a BCS game for Oklahoma if they win. Oklahoma is a 4 point favorite, at a neutral site, Kansas City, so essentially the bookies see this game as a toss up.
Have fun and good luck!
