The college football National Champion is LSU; after soundly defeating Ohio State in the BCS Championship Game.

So, with the final game included, I end the bowl season 16-15-1, a winning season, by the smallest of margins.

This is the final AP Poll for the 2007 college football season.

Do you agree with it?

The poll is of some importance to sports bettors because it will influence next season's early rankings and therefore the way a bettor wagers.

Of course a lot depends on which players and coaches return to their teams and the quality of the incoming freshmen class.

I have to disagree with Ohio State's placement. Surely West Virginia, who clobbered Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl, should have been ranked higher. Ohio State had a weak schedule and the last touchdown against LSU was a fluke. I thought that Kansas, by beating a tough Virginia Tech team in the Orange Bowl, should have been ranked higher.

Ohio State should have been ranked #7, IMHO, and I also think that USC should have nudged Georgia for the #2 spot.

It also seems odd that Penn State isn't in the Top 25, but then, as crazy as this season was, the teams ranked in the Top 25 deserve being there.

There's hope though for an actual college football playoff system in the near future.

The BCS people have decided to seriously consider at least an abbreviated college football playoff system.

This system is referred to as "Plus One", and would involve the top 4 ranked teams.

This gives me hope for an even bigger playoff series sometime in the future.
