The aladdin is officially gone from the Las Vegas Strip.

No, you didn't miss another implosion; this building is new, even by Las Vegas standards, having opened in 2000.

What has happened is that the casino formerly known as The Aladdin is now officially "Planet Hollywood Resort."

The front of the building has been torn down, as I found out not long ago during one of my visits to The Strip, when I thought I had time to do a video of the Aladdin facade.

The photo above shows what The Aladdin currently looks like, except that the desert features have been removed, and are being replaced with what is planned to be a "Times Square" look.

It should be interesting to see how the place ends up looking when it's finished. Frankly, I never liked the front of The Aladdin, it was a bit overdone and ostentatious, and strangely, at the same time, it wasn't really noticeable.

The official opening is scheduled for September, but a "soft" opening was just held and was attended by Carmen Electra, Bruce Willis, Sugar Ray Leonard and other celebrities.

As always with new or re-launched properties keep your eyes open for special promotions.

This is the new "Planet Hollywood Resort" website, and here's the details on the changeover.
