Confused? OK, let me explain?
For years now there's been a race in Las Vegas to see who could build the biggest, over the top casino. These "mega resorts", IMHO, are just too damn big. While it's true that you can find almost everything in every one of them, you also have to spend half your time hiking through them to find what you want.
In true Las Vegas style these properties also make sure that in order to get to something, such as a restaurant or store; you have to follow a convoluted path that takes you through the casino, usually the crowded slot area.
The reason for this is obvious, and for someone like me, who is in less than stellar physical condition, its enough to keep me out of these places.
So, Boyd Gaming, in what appears to be an attempt to attract my patronage, is building a more non-athletic people' property on the site where the old Stardust once stood.
The project, called, "Echelon", will feature a number of upscale hotel-casinos, linked together, but distinctly separate and rather small in individual size. Combined the $4.8 billion dollar property may well prove to be larger than any other on The Strip, but each individual property will have a small, exclusive atmosphere.
Here's the story.
