Las Vegas is known for many things, but it's also a city for new beginnings, and that's what it appears is in the cards for Britney Spears.

Throughout all her personal travails Britney Spears has held on to her personal, and business association with Las Vegas', Maloof family.

One of the Maloof business holdings is the successful, just off The Strip, Palms Hotel and Casino, and it's a place where Britney Spears has made many a memorable appearance.

With Las Vegas taking a bigger piece of the New Year's Eve trade every year it comes a no surprise that there are strong rumors that Britney will usher in 2009 at The Palms.

A fresh start for a New Year perhaps, we'll see, right now with the economy where it is any new beginning seems good.

I always say you can find anything and everything in Las Vegas and now you can celebrate Halloween here too.

As time moves on people's perception of what something, "is", sometimes changes, and that's what has happened with Halloween"

Halloween is no longer viewed as the annual holiday that is tolerated for the kids; in fact it has burgeoned into a "season".

Hey why not, as one guy said, "Halloween is the silly season." That means the adults can now dress up and do all the things they didn't get to do as kids, or, a chance to do it again.

Here's an article about actual haunted houses in Las Vegas that you can visit.

I know it's October and the pool season is long over, but hey, that's not the case in Las Vegas where the highs are still in the upper 80's to the mid-90's.

So you can still sunbathe here, and now, naked as well.

It's more or less "off season" here until we swing into the holidays, but, that doesn't mean you can always count on getting a room anytime, anywhere.

We had visitors a few weeks ago and they had a little bit of a problem getting the kind of choice they expected. In the end though they found a remarkably well appointed room, more like a small suite actually, at the Red Rock Hotel and Casino for the weekend rate of about $100.00 per night.

Here's the story about the naked sunbathing in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Rio Hotel and Casino.

There are probably other places in Las Vegas where you can engage in naked sunbathing but my wife told me I don't have the time to find them.

Have fun and good luck!

NFL Football 2008 Week 7

There were a lot of injuries in the NFL the week before last and their effect has been felt by the teams and those who bet on them.

It would seem that waiting until the last possible moment before placing bets makes sense but that's not really viable. That means you have to get to the sport book at perhaps one of the busiest times, and, let's face it, you can never be certain that you have all the latest injury info.

NFL teams are notorious for fudging injury reports anyway, so I think the best you can do is to make your picks, wait a day or so, and if nothing significant occurs, place your bets, and don't look back.

I see too that Pacman Jones is back in the doghouse. So there's another factor to consider when handicapping these days, who will be suspended from Sunday to Sunday.

Frankly I was surprised that the Cowboys picked him up; years ago the ragtag Oakland Raiders would have snagged him.

Last week only the Jets came through for me so let's move on with:

New York Jets, away, minus 3, over Oakland
Chicago, at home, minus 3, over Minnesota
Dallas, away, minus 7, over Saint Louis
Buffalo, at home, plus 1, over San Diego
Tennessee, away, minus 9, over Kansas City
Houston, at home, minus 9, over Detroit
Washington, at home, minus 7, over Cleveland
Pittsburg, away, minus 10, over Cincinnati

Here's a pair of Las Vegas websites where you can check out the odds and point spreads for all the NFL games and see what propositions you like.

Have fun and good luck!

College Football 2008 Week 8

Another weekend and another number 1 team gets knocked off. I said last week that I had a bad feeling about the Oklahoma - Texas game; but I took it anyway.

About the only thing that's predictable about that classic annual match up is that it will be a high scoring affair.

Next season I'll try some over and unders, maybe as a separate bet pool. I'll think about it because these college games are getting so close it's almost impossible to find much of an edge these days.

Anyway, a dismal 2 and 6 performance with only Michigan State and Penn State coming through for me, but I'm still up a few games in the season won-lost total so I'm not giving up.

This weekend let's see how these work:

Oklahoma State, at home, minus 17, over Baylor
Penn State, at home, minus 23, over Michigan
LSU, away, minus 4, over South Carolina
BYU, away, minus 1, over TCU
Virginia Tech, away, plus 3, over Boston College
Georgia, at home, minus 15, over Vanderbilt
Michigan State, at home, plus 4, over Ohio State
Wisconsin, away, plus 4, over Iowa

Have fun and good luck!

Despite the need for the federal government to bail out most of the nation's banking system Business is starting to pick up again in Las Vegas.

There will be a record number of new mega casinos and hotels opening in Las Vegas over the next year or so; and along with new gambling and entertainment options there is a noticeable boost in the Las Vegas job market.

There are still plenty of bargains in the housing market but prices are starting to move upward again.

Despite being a relatively small town, Las Vegas, in the middle of the hot, dry Mojave Desert, attracts millions of visitors every year, so there must be a reason why.

In fact there are innumerable reasons people keep coming back, variety, not only among the number and types of things to do, but choices within each category.

One of the biggest areas of competition in Las Vegas is still hotel room rentals. You can find every type of hotel room here, most are at least good, some are great and many are outstanding, and they come in all price ranges too.

If you want a clean, basic room, in an off Strip location, there are some large scale renovations going on in certain old Vegas casinos that should attract your attention.

The old "Gold Spike Casino", once a rather spiffy little place, had fallen into disrepair, but is being resurrected, and should be completely renovated by early 2009.

Keep yours eyes on travel deals featuring the Gold Spike when it starts advertising its new look.

The "Downtown" area of Las Vegas, which features the famed, "Fremont Street Experience" is where you'll find he Gold Spike Casino.

Here's the story about the new Las Vegas Gold Spike Casino.

NFL Football 2008 Week 6

I somewhat redeemed myself last weekend with a 5-1-2 showing, and now my season to date is 18-18-02, so it's time to start over again.

The better teams are starting to flex their muscles and the injury factor is taking hold here and there but it's been an entertaining season so far, at least from a purely spectator's point of view.

Let's see if I can back on a winning track starting this week with these hopefuls:

Chicago, away, minus 3, over Atlanta
Dallas, away, minus 6, over Arizona
New York Giants, away, minus 8, over Cleveland
Washington, at home, minus 14, over Saint Louis
Denver, at home, minus 3, over Jacksonville
New York Jets, at home, minus 6, over Cincinnati
New England, away, plus 6, over San Diego
San Francisco, at home, plus 5, over Philadelphia

College Football 2008 Week 7

OK, that's 2 weeks in a row of good picks, and last weekend's 6 and 2 showing takes me up to 24-14-01 season record.

Since last week, when Oklahoma took over the top spot, and held on to it, the SEC seems to have dropped off in power, and has been replaced by the Big 12 Conference which now holds 6 spots in the Top 20.

There is a huge Big 12 game this weekend which pits undefeated #1 Oklahoma against long time arch rival undefeated #5 Texas.

Oklahoma is a 7 point favorite and I'll go out on a limb and start this weekend's choices with:

Oklahoma, at home, minus 7, over Texas
Michigan State, away, minus 2, over Northwestern
Colorado, away, plus 14, over Kansas
East Carolina, away, minus 5, over Virginia
BYU, at home, minus 24, over New Mexico
Vanderbilt, away, minus 3, over Mississippi State
Penn State, away, minus 5, over Wisconsin
Georgia, at home, minus 13, over Tennessee

Check out the "Vegas.com" and "Vegas Insider" betting lines for your own picks.

Have fun and good luck!
